A multi-media installation that celebrates seagrass habitats, using light, sculpture and augmented reality (AR), and brings this vital marine plant to life. The sculpture presents a towering cluster of seagrass blades growing from the sandy seabed, its rhizome anchoring it. The sculpture can be illuminated in darkness with lights that cast rippling currents across its surface.

Audiences can explore the ecosystem and interact through an AR experience that reveals more about seagrass’s wonders and benefits. Stylised animations of a seagrass meadow full of life appear around you. Interactive seeds can be planted, and blades will grow from the seabed. Infographics describe how seagrass offers powerful nature-based solutions to societal challenges such as climate emergency, food security and environmental degradation. The audience can photograph and video themselves immersed within the animations and see themselves as part of this rich ecosystem.

The artwork has been exhibited and adapted for various public spaces and events across the City of Plymouth and beyond. It has helped to tell the inspiring story of restoring and recovering keystone marine habitats in the UK and globally.
